Discover Philippines through Mati City



Even before Mati was hailed a city by virtue of the laws of the land, it has already been the favorite destination of water adventure lovers all over Mindanao and the country. Despite the fact that most infrastructure projects are still under planning stage, one can still enjoy this so called coconut capital of the East. A beauty incomparable to any beaches in Palawan, Boracay or Mindoro; Mati’s pure and regal beaches are the sure next big thing when it comes to tourism.

Escaping to the Orient

The fastest way to reach this place is to travel via your own car in two roads, the Madaum Diversion and Davao-Tagum highway; the former is shorter. The local airport named after the first lady of the late President Marcos, also the lone airport of the province is solely utilized by the government.  Davao’s new airport will be your only way to enter this region by plane.

Beach Paradise

The Pacific Ocean covers entirely the eastern and southernmost tips of this wonderful city, so much that resorts just appear after another; marking new developments as tourism is on the rise in the capital of the region. Among most popular Mati beach resorts, those that are situated in the islands of Dahican and Badas are most popular since these places already have developed resorts. Both places are reachable via boats, Dahican is 15 minutes away while Badas is 25 minutes.



There is just a vast number of yet to be tapped islands and land formations near the Pacific that needs attention for it to be a source of profit, which the government is already eyeing. Pujada, the city’s ecological jewel, is the spot for new projects since in here sits a natural wonder most locals call the sleeping Dinosaur. Pujada, despite tagged as still undeveloped for tourism is also a place where livelihood mainly comes for most Matinian. For a serene diving, snorkeling and everything adventure under the sea, Waniban, sometimes Huaniban Island beach also found in Pujada is just as great. Resorts in Mati are concentrated on one area so going island hopping can be a good choice to try other places like Botona beach resort, the pristine sleeping dinosaur island and Jambay.

Must See and Stay

Cheap but cozy accommodations are also available within the vicinity of the city, look for Honey’s Inn, Princess Cecille Pension House, Baywalk Hotel and D’Eterna Hotel. Do not worry for your big appetite because you can still taste some of the best dishes through various restaurants that fill the streets of Mati, walk or ride tricycles to find one that suits you and your taste buddies. From a local’s perspective, Mati is not just proud of its pristine white sand beaches but also of nature’s wonder Mount Hamiguitan where centuries old bonsai trees and a hidden lake greets you on top.
